CURRENT PROJECTS

The CECC project was administered under the auspices of the Centre for Policy Studies on Culture and Communities, in the School of Communication, Simon Fraser University.

The project conducted a nation-wide consultation with over 100 policy stakeholders at three levels of government on the state of cultural infrastructure in communities across Canada, commissioned extensive secondary data analysis, and sponsored a major international colloquium attended by over 400 in Spring of 2008. Resources and publications developed through the CECC project are posted on this website.

Through this initiative, the CPCC has developed extensive relations with stakeholders, a proven track record in knowledge outreach and exchange, a listserv of 5,400 subscribers, regular salons, and over 30 publications in the field of creative space, infrastructure gaps and municipal, cultural planning indicators, and provincial and regional planning approaches to cultural infrastructure.

The CPCC currently has projects underway which include:

— The development of Creative City News: Special Edition 5 entitled "Cultural Infratructure: An Integral Component of Canadian Communities" to be published by the Creative City Network of Canada in English and French editions;
Developing and Revitalizing Rural Communities through Arts and Creativity: An International Literature Review and Inventory of Resources. Working with the Creative City Network of Canada, this review
focuses on compiling both theoretical and pragmatic learnings for rural and remote communities in Canada. International partners in Australia, the United States, and Europe are contributing;
— An international comparison of the development of cultural districts internationally, in partnership with Colliers International;
— Leadership in an international network of media researchers studying the pornographic industry, including labour within it;
— A partnership in a global review of women’s participation in journalism; and
— An international comparison of “flexicurity” initiatives to support cultural work around the world for the Canadian Conference of the Arts.
